ABORTION PILL REVERSAL

ABORTION PILL REVERSAL FACTS

Facts are important, especially when it comes to options that impact patients. You should know: The "abortion “reversal" treatment is NOT based in science, it is NOT FDA approved and does NOT meet clinical standards. So, why are so many people talking about it?

WHAT IS APR?

The so called "abortion pill reversal", also known as APR, is the anti choice movement's newest tactic to steer women away from the opportunity of abortion.

The only problem? It's not a real medical procedure, and it's not FDA approved. Here are some facts you need to know before you let anyone mess with your body and your rights.

Use accurate and reliable sources of information about your options, risks and benefits. Trust sources that are based on science and evidence, like Planned Parenthood or the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Personal testimonials or videos on social media are not usually reliable sources of information, especially regarding unproven medical procedures, so use discernment.

ABORTIONS ARE SAFE | APR IS NOT

Abortion pill reversal is a process that involves taking high doses of progesterone after you take the first pill of mifepristone.

The idea is that progesterone can counteract the effects of mifepristone and continue the pregnancy. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. There is no evidence that this works at all.

In fact, the only case study done was so flawed and unethical that it had to be stopped early. The researchers didn't follow safety protocols, didn't get proper consent from participants, and exposed them to serious infection and bleeding. Not cool, and not scientific.

APR is promoted by anti-choice groups who have an interest in political allies. They are not medical experts, and are not  looking out for your best interests.

APR IS NOT FDA APPROVED

This process simply hasn't been tested for safety or effectiveness. The FDA approves drugs and devices that have gone through clinical trials and have proven to be safe and effective for their intended use.

Abortion pill reversal has not met these standards. In fact, the FDA has warned against using progesterone for this purpose, saying that it is "not supported by science" and could be harmful.

Meanwhile, the FDA says that mifepristone is safe and effective for medication abortion when used as directed.

They are also trying to pass laws that would force doctors to tell patients about abortion pill reversal, even though it's not based on science.

WHAT'S UP DOC?

Talk to your doctor. Your doctor is the best person to advise you on what is best for your health and your situation. Your doctor can also answer any questions or concerns you may have about the medication abortion process and what to expect. Don't let anyone pressure you into making a decision that you don't feel comfortable with.

If you decide to have a medication abortion, make sure you follow the instructions that come with the pills. Take them as directed and at the right time. Don't take any other drugs or supplements without consulting your doctor first. And don't try to reverse your abortion with progesterone or anything else. It won't work and it could hurt you.

EMOTIONS

Having an abortion can be an emotional experience for some people. You may feel a range of emotions at all stages, from relief to sadness to anger to guilt. That's all normal and valid. Having strong feelings does not mean you are making the wrong choice - it means you are having a deeply human experience, and you don't have to go through this alone.

Remember, this is your body, your choice, and your life. You deserve to make informed decisions about your health and your future. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise or try to take away your rights. You are strong, smart, and capable of making the best decision for yourself. Stay safe and stay awesome, ladies!
